Tiger Woods & Jack Nicklaus

Jack Nicklaus

Tiger Woods could still match Jack Nicklaus' major championship record of 18 by the year 2012, but, he'll need to win all 4 majors (the Grand Slam). Will he break the record this year? Or, will his career still be derailed due to his personal issues.

Tiger Woods record setting pace to break Jack Nicklaus' Major Championship record of 18 in 2010.

The graph above displays the major championship victories of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. The year 2011, in which he was 35 years old, was Tiger's 16th year as a PGA Tour Pro (start in 1996) and he finished right on Jack's pace. Jack's 14th year was 1975. He was 35 years old.

The shapes of the graphs are amazingly similar. Jack had a quicker start in accumulating major victories, but Tiger caught up in 2000/2001. Both had had their droughts at very similar times in their careers.

The question is, will Tiger continue to perform at his career average and continue to win majors at a high rate, or, will his career start to slow as Jack's did.

Tiger's game over the past few years has been less than stellar, mainly due to personal issues. Will he regain his champion's form, or will Jack's record stand, waiting for the next great champion.
